Monsters

Monsters can help children face and overcome unknown fears. Papperlapapp No. 28 addresses this topic with lively texts and cheeky illustrations.

In Lukas and the monster in the corner, the protagonist Lukas comes up with a series of ideas for getting rid of the monster in the corner of his bedroom. The fact that an image of Lukas’ mother is the best “monster trap” is initially met with scepticism by his parents, but is ultimately welcomed with humour. In any case, the story comes to a wonderful conclusion with the whole family painting and the monster finally disappearing.

In Monsters on holiday, the little bird feels his peace disturbed by the monsters Can-Not, Want-Not, the Worry Monster, and the Anger Monster. So the bird recommends that they go on vacation. But each of them comes up with a personal excuse as to why going on vacation is impossible. In the course of the story, each monster confesses its specific fears, but is supported by the others in overcoming them. In the end, all the monsters get into the Monster Mobile and race off to the seaside.

The Brainteasers raise the question of what monsters themselves might be afraid of. The Join in! page encourages children to make a monster figure out of a few utensils and invent a scary story. On page 38, children can immortalize themselves as monsters.
